FAME Week Africa a celebration of creativity

The 5th edition of FAME Week Africa began this morning at the CTICC. As a festival partner, the City of Cape Town was represented by Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security, Alderman JP Smith, who officially opened the event.

‘Cape Town celebrates FAME Week Africa as a key opportunity to showcase its top locations and talented filmmakers. The event has become a vital platform for local and international creatives to share work, collaborate, and network. From its modest start with 3,000 attendees during Covid-19 restrictions, it has grown significantly expecting nearly 7,000 delegates in 2025 over six days and five events,’ said Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security, Alderman JP Smith.

 
Alderman Smith also opened the City of Cape Town/Film Cape Town stand on the FAME Week Africa exhibition floor.

The stand will showcase and highlight short films by talented emerging filmmakers from some of Cape Town’s tertiary and film institutions.
 
This year, the City is partnering with students from AFDA, the Animation School, Film School Africa, CPUT, UCT and SAE, whose films will be showcased at the pop-up cinema.  
The short films are a combination of animation, live action, fiction and non-fiction, which will play between 10:00 and 14:00 from Monday, 1 September to Wednesday, 3 September.
   
FAME Week Africa unites local and global storytellers, innovators, and visionaries, providing a powerful platform to showcase talent, culture, and creativity across key industries such as film, art, media, and entertainment. 

Attendees can look forward to a dynamic programme featuring insightful content sessions, film screenings, live music, curated exhibitions, and a wide array of networking opportunities designed to connect creatives with global partners, investors, and audiences.  FAME Week Africa continues to unlock new opportunities for collaboration, investment, and cultural exchange on a global scale.
 
The event’s short film festival, FAME Shorts Film Festival, takes place at The Labia Theatre from Thursday, 4 September until Saturday, 6 September. Tickets for the short film festival are available here.
